What does LIUNA Training do?

LIUNA Training provides curriculum, instructor training and support services to more than 70 affiliated Laborers' International Union of North America training centers (Training Funds) located throughout the United States and Canada.

How is LIUNA Training related to the Laborers' International Union of North America (LIUNA)?

LIUNA Training is one of three LIUNA Trust Funds: LIUNA Training and Education Fund; Laborers Health and Safety Fund of North America (LHSFNA); and the Laborers-Employers Cooperation and Education Trust (LECET). The LIUNA Tri-Funds provide valuable benefits to LIUNA members, including training programs (LIUNA Training), enhanced jobsite safety and member health (LHSFNA), and promotion of the union-sector market share (LECET).

How is LIUNA Training funded?

LIUNA and affiliated contractors create collective bargaining agreements for worker pay and benefits. As part of those agreements, funding is provided to support LIUNA member training through local training centers and the LIUNA Training and Education Fund. LIUNA Training also receives federal grant support for worker skills and safety training.

Does LIUNA Training conduct workforce training?

LIUNA Training develops Construction Craft Laborer trade curriculum and training programs. Worker training is provided by affiliated training centers located throughout the United States and Canada.

Can anyone take LIUNA Training courses?

Affiliated training centers conduct workforce training for LIUNA members. Anyone 18 or older can join a LIUNA local and become eligible for training. To locate a training center near you, go to the LIUNA Training home page by clicking on the L icon above.

How much does training cost?

LIUNA training is free to LIUNA members. To join a LIUNA Local visit www.liuna.org.

How can LIUNA Training prepare me for a career in construction?

LIUNA Training programs and courses help workers advance from high school and employability skills development, through apprenticeship, and into journey worker upgrade training. Many specialty skills programs prepare workers for careers in building or highway construction, environmental remediation and green construction, residential reconstruction and retrofit, and many more fields.

How can I join a LIUNA apprenticeship program?

To apply for entry into a LIUNA apprentice program, contact your LIUNA Local or LIUNA Training affiliated training center for information and qualification requirements. Generally you must be 18 years old and have a high school diploma or GED.

Will LIUNA Training programs help prepare me for college?

Thirteen LIUNA Training courses are approved for college credit recommendation by the American Council on Education (ACE) and many apprentice programs have articulation agreements with their local community college(s). In addition, craft training provides skills that help prepare workers for college level education, while providing valuable work experience.

How can I get college credit for my LIUNA training?

Contact the training center where you received your training to see if your course qualifies for college credit recommendation. You can also register for the ACE Transcript Service and submit a request for college credit recommendation for qualified LIUNA Training courses. Your selected college will make the final decision regarding whether your LIUNA training qualifies for credit under their programs.

Is LIUNA Training an accredited training organization?

LIUNA Training curriculum and its instructor training programs are accredited by the International Accreditation Service (IAS) under their Accreditation Program for Training Agencies for Work Force Qualification (AC371) and their Accreditation Program for Curriculum Development for Workforce Qualification (AC372).
