Training and Education > Instructor Training

We build the best instructors, too.

Across the educational spectrum, from kindergarten through post-graduate classes, research shows that the instructors' own academic preparation is an important part of their success as educators and their students' success in the workforce. That's why one of the most important things we do is train and credential instructors for our 70 affiliated training centers. Instructors put training ideas to work. They guide, demonstrate, present, and encourage, helping workers gain new skills, update work practices, and grow into more challenging opportunities.

Our instructor training and development programs assure that training center instructors acquire the knowledge and skills needed to transmit their technical and educational excellence into the classroom. The program:

  • Identifies essential training principles for trade instructors based on current industry needs and the best practices of adult education;
  • Certifies instructors at a specific level of teaching proficiency, with the opportunity to continue to learn and achieve a higher level of certification if desired;
  • Provides an atmosphere of professional openness and sharing that stimulates and encourages on-going learning;
  • Supports increased communication networks among LIUNA instructors; and
  • Develops and strengthens leaders within the construction trade training profession.

LIUNA Training provides the highest quality professional development within the trade instruction field. Staff and industry experts develop new courses offerings, review and reassess instructor training programs, and provide instructor and course assessment and monitoring. As instructors progress in their careers, LIUNA Training offers them many opportunities to advance their construction skills and grow as educational professionals through courses, networking and conferences.

We proudly shoulder the responsibility of training the men and women who teach LIUNA members and apprentices, because the lives of thousands of construction workers depend upon their knowledge and skills to keep them safe and bring home a living wage.
